Welcome to the Roaring Kalahari Route. This is the fifth edition of the Roaring Kalahari Route website. In previous editions we split the route up into eight sections, but in this edition we have simplified it into 4 sections, each colour coded and with their own symbol, as shown here, so that you can easily identify in which section you are. This colour coding is carried through to the maps.
Our main intention is still to help one and all, especially city slickers, who can find the sheer size, wildness and distances of the Kalahari intimidating, to find their way around this magnificent semi-desert area in style and comfort.
We want you to experience the massive tracts of land that are home to pronking springbok, herds of majestic gemsbok and migrating wildebeest. We want you to view soaring raptors - more than 40 species have been recorded. We want to show off our very unique plant species, you’ll be amazed at what grows in this semi-arid region. And you’ll e even more amazed at the strips of irrigated verdant green land that stand in stark contrast to the surrounding red and white sands.
